Indian Ocean in Hong Kong

Stolen shot of guests who started to dance to the music of Indian Ocean

As invited by the Consulate General of India in Hong Kong, we ended this week with the concert of Indian Ocean at the Jockey Club Auditorium. This band from India plays contemporary fusion music. The concert is part of their world tour for 2010. They have already conquered the United States and Canada, and for the rest of this year, they will be in Mainland China, Sweden and Singapore.

The members have been together as band for more than 20 years, yet it was their first time to play in Hong Kong. Their music started out as purely instrumental, but soon, their genre expanded to songs for Bollywood movies, as well as for movies that never happened.

All the members of the band hail from Delhi, but at the concert, they also sang in Bengali and, you’d be surprised, Aramaic! I did not understand any of the songs they rendered, but music is music. What I liked the best was their song that calls for stopping the senseless violence between different religions.

For those whose passion is music, you may listen and download their songs for free (yes, free!) at www.indianoceanmusic.com.
